Agape Couples Workshop

Agape Couples Workshop

A Personalised Christian Relationship Enrichment Programme

Share Love. Choose Agapē. Flourish Together.

What is AGAPĒ

AGAPĒ offers couples dedicated space to understand one another, strengthen their connection and explore how they want to build their relationship. Developed within the Wardrobe of Love model, the programme brings together Christian reflection, a trauma-informed perspective and practical relationship skills.

Its central invitation is to cultivate love intentionally through how you listen, respond, connect, and share everyday life.

What this workshop offers

AGAPĒ is a personalised workshop for couples, held in person at CRCTC. It consists of four sessions of two hours each, tailored to the couple’s strengths, concerns and goals.

The work explores how individual differences, communication patterns, responses to conflict and ways of expressing affection influence your relationship. Sessions combine guided conversation, reflective activities and practical exercises. Between appointments, you may be invited to practise a shared activity or continue a conversation at home.

Who it is for

AGAPĒ welcomes couples who are:

  • Preparing for marriage.

  • Newly married and establishing shared patterns.

  • Navigating changing responsibilities or a new season.

  • Seeking greater understanding after recurring disagreements.

  • Wanting to strengthen friendship, affection or spiritual connection.

  • Investing in a longstanding marriage.

You do not need to be in crisis to seek relationship enrichment. An initial conversation considers your needs and whether joint participation is appropriate.

The Christian foundation

AGAPĒ draws on Colossians 3:14 and its invitation to put on love. Grace, mutual respect, emotional safety and a shared walk with God form the programme’s Christian foundation.

Faith is explored through reflection and everyday practice, not to demand agreement or silence personal concerns. Both partners’ perspectives matter. The programme creates room to consider how love is expressed through words, actions, responsibility and care.

The Four Loves and what we nurture

The programme uses four expressions of love as a framework for reflection:

  • Eros — romantic love: attraction, affection and intimate connection.

  • Philia — friendship love: companionship, shared interests and enjoying one another.

  • Storgē — belonging love: familiarity, care and a sense of home together.

  • Agapē — covenant love: intentional commitment and care expressed through choices and actions.

These offer different perspectives on connection. They are not scores or standards against which your relationship is ranked.

The Four Pillars and what supports us

Communication: Explore how you speak, listen, express needs and respond during difficult conversations.

Comprehension: Make room to understand each other’s perspective, including differences in expectations, preferences and personal experience.

Affection: Consider how warmth, appreciation and closeness are expressed and received, with respect for each partner’s comfort and boundaries.

Communion: Reflect on shared faith, companionship and the practices that help you feel connected as a couple.

The Four Discoveries and what we learn

The programme explores personality preferences, communication styles, conflict management styles and preferred ways of expressing and receiving love.

Profiles and reflective tools provide starting points for conversation. They do not define either partner, explain every disagreement or remove responsibility for behaviour. The purpose is to replace assumptions with a clearer understanding of one another.

The Four Practices and what we do

AGAPĒ connects reflection with four shared practices:

  • Pray together: Explore meaningful ways of sharing faith.

  • Talk together: Create room for honest, respectful conversation.

  • Connect: Make intentional space for friendship and affection.

  • Grow together: Choose manageable practices that support your relationship.

The particular activities are discussed in relation to your needs and circumstances.

Understanding experiences without blame

Personal history and difficult experiences can form part of the conversation where relevant to either partner. A trauma-informed perspective creates room for sensitivity, pacing and choice.

Understanding someone’s experience does not excuse harmful behaviour or make one partner responsible for managing the other’s reactions. Where individual counselling or another form of support is needed, this can be discussed separately from the enrichment programme.

What to expect from sessions

We begin by exploring what each partner hopes to gain and agreeing on priorities. Across the four sessions, you consider the model’s themes in relation to your own relationship. There is space to ask questions, recognise strengths and discuss patterns you would like to approach differently.

Practical work may include listening exercises, conversations about expectations, ways to express appreciation, and more constructive approaches to disagreement. The workshop is personalized, not a requirement to reach the same conclusion on every topic.

What we are working towards

Depending on your shared priorities, the aims may include:

  • Greater understanding of individual differences.

  • More respectful communication.

  • Clearer expression of needs and boundaries.

  • More constructive responses to disagreement.

  • Stronger friendship and intentional connection.

  • Shared practices that support faith and everyday partnership.

These are aims rather than guaranteed outcomes. The programme depends on willing participation and does not promise to resolve every relationship difficulty.
