Embracing change. Choosing your way forward.
What is SOAR
SOAR offers a guided opportunity to explore the ideas, assumptions and recurring patterns that may be limiting your choices or personal growth.
Sometimes you understand what happened in the past, yet still respond in familiar ways. You may recognise a repeating difficulty in relationships, question a long-held belief or feel uncertain about your next step.
SOAR provides space to examine these concerns with curiosity and respect. You choose the focus, explore your own experience and consider what you would like to do differently.
Explore. Discover. Choose. Grow.
What this service offers
SOAR is a facilitated attitude-exploration and life-coaching programme for adults. Within this programme, an attitude means the position you currently hold towards an area of life: what you believe, expect, notice and choose. It is something to explore, rather than a label defining who you are.
The work uses guided questions to help you examine assumptions, recognise patterns and consider alternative perspectives. The purpose is to support your own understanding and translate insight into a realistic next step.
Who it is for
SOAR may be appropriate for adults who are ready for reflective coaching and want to explore:
-
A recurring difficulty or a sense of being stuck.
-
Assumptions that restrict their choices.
-
A gap between their intentions and actions.
-
Patterns affecting communication or relationships.
-
Questions about identity, responsibility or direction.
-
Personal growth after trauma counselling.
SOAR can be particularly relevant when the main trauma-related distress has been addressed, but certain beliefs or patterns still need attention. An initial conversation considers your needs and whether coaching exploration is an appropriate starting point.
The foundation of SOAR
SOAR is grounded in client-led exploration, dignity and personal responsibility. You remain the person who determines what fits your experience. My role is to provide structure and ask questions that support exploration, rather than supply an interpretation or tell you who you are.
The work creates space to understand how a pattern developed, what it may protect, and what it may now cost. Exploring present choices does not assign blame for traumatic experiences or remove another person’s responsibility for their actions.
Choosing an area to explore
SOAR offers 19 life domains as possible starting points. These include truth, perception, communication, identity, relationships with yourself and others, control, ability, success, harmony and ethics.
You select the area that feels relevant to your concerns. There is no requirement to begin with a particular domain or work through every area.
The programme draws on the Table of Attitudes attributed to Frank A. Gerbode. Reference statements are used as invitations to reflect, rather than as scores, diagnoses or fixed descriptions of your personality. You may agree, disagree, pause or choose a different focus.
How the process works
SOAR follows six connected stages:
-
Identify: Choose the life area or concern you want to explore.
-
Explore: Notice the thoughts, feelings and experiences connected with it.
-
Understand: Examine the meaning, protective purpose or repeating pattern.
-
Insight: Consider what you are beginning to see about assumptions, strengths, consequences and alternatives.
-
Choose: Identify a realistic, responsible response or next step.
-
Grow: Practise your choice and review what you learn.
Questions are selected according to their relevance. The session follows what matters to you, rather than working through a questionnaire.
What to expect from a session
We begin by discussing your concerns, goals and readiness for this kind of exploration. You choose a domain and consider statements or questions that may help you describe your current position. Together, we explore what fits, what does not and what you are discovering.
The conversation may involve distinguishing facts from interpretations, noticing exceptions to a familiar belief or considering how a pattern affects your relationships and choices.
Towards the end, you identify a manageable action, boundary or practice. Where available and appropriate, a handout or brief written plan can support reflection between sessions.
What we are working towards
Depending on your chosen focus, the aims may include:
-
Clearer recognition of assumptions and recurring patterns.
-
Greater awareness without shame-based labels.
-
More flexibility in considering different perspectives.
-
Greater consistency between values, words and actions.
-
Clearer ownership of choices and their impact.
-
A practical next step and a way to review it.
These are aims rather than guaranteed outcomes.
Programme scope
SOAR is a practitioner-developed programme currently undergoing refinement. It is not a diagnostic assessment or a validated psychological test.
It does not replace trauma counselling or other care when those are needed. If concerns arise that require a different form of support, we can pause the exploration while you consider the appropriate next step.
Session arrangements
SOAR offers individual sessions for adults, available online or in person. Sessions typically last 90 minutes, providing time to explore your chosen focus, reflect on insights and identify a practical next step.
Scheduling and follow-up arrangements are discussed during the initial enquiry.
