What is Albatross
Albatross offers adults space to explore their lives, recognise their strengths and consider choices that matter to them. The programme uses a simple image: you are the albatross, your life is the ocean, and your circumstances are the winds and changing conditions.
You bring your own experiences, abilities, responsibilities and hopes. Through guided exploration, you discover what is present, what matters and how you want to respond. Your facilitator flies alongside, without taking over your wings.
What this service offers
Albatross provides practical, participant-led life coaching focused on everyday living and personal development. You may want to make a decision, rebuild a routine, balance responsibilities or explore a new direction. You may also feel settled and want space to consider what comes next.
The work supports exploration, awareness and self-chosen action. You do not need a clearly defined problem or a polished goal before beginning.
Who it is for
Albatross is for adults who want to explore:
-
A transition or change in circumstances.
-
Uncertainty about personal direction.
-
Competing demands at work or home.
-
Daily routines and use of time.
-
Relationships and responsibilities.
-
Personal strengths and available support.
-
Habits they would like to develop or reconsider.
These are possible starting points, rather than a checklist everyone must complete. Your own priorities guide the focus.
NAVIGATE and finding your way
NAVIGATE expresses the programme’s central purpose: learning to find your way through life as you experience it. Some circumstances can be influenced. Others need recognition and consideration. The work creates room to consider that distinction and explore the choices available to you.
Navigation is an ongoing practice. You may try an action, notice what happens and adjust your direction. A pause, a change of course or a decision to seek support can be a meaningful part of the process.
Looking at the whole person
Albatross makes room for the different parts of your life: physical wellbeing and rest, thinking and learning, relationships and support, and personal values and meaning.
These areas influence one another. Sometimes the most useful starting point is recognising a need for stability, rest or support before taking on a larger goal.
The work also explores existing strengths, practical habits and opportunities to develop your abilities. Growth can mean making a manageable choice, strengthening a relationship or finding a meaningful way to contribute to others.
Your own beliefs and worldview are respected. Personal faith can form part of the exploration where it matters to you.
Strength through discipline
Within Albatross, discipline means returning thoughtfully to an intention you have chosen, practising it and learning from what follows. It includes recognising your limits, conserving energy and making room for rest.
A small, sustainable commitment may be more useful than a large promise that is difficult to maintain. A missed action provides something to explore. It is not treated as proof of weak character or a reason for judgement.
Strength through discipline means steady, self-chosen practice, with room to rest and adjust.
How the approach works
Albatross uses conversation and relevant activities to support your own exploration. The work may help you notice what is happening, recognise resources, consider priorities and identify a manageable next step. Where useful, a visual tool such as the Wheel of Life can provide a starting point.
The tool does not determine what your life means or which area you must address. You choose what draws your attention and whether you want to explore it further.
Activities are intended to remain accessible. You can express yourself in your own words, and completing written work is not treated as a measure of your ability to grow.
The facilitator’s role
The facilitator provides a structured space through attentive listening, exploration questions and respect for your pace. They do not interpret your experience, reshape your account, supply advice or choose a solution on your behalf.
You retain ownership of the meaning you discover and any action you choose. The facilitator supports the process while you learn to navigate for yourself.
What to expect from a session
We begin with your experience and what feels relevant to you. A conversation, simple activity or suitable tool may help open the exploration. There is room to recognise strengths, consider uncertainty and examine the circumstances surrounding a choice.
If you identify a next step, you can choose a manageable way to practise it in everyday life. A later session may explore what happened, what you learned and whether you want to adjust your approach. You are not required to reach a particular insight or decision before a session ends.
Albatross within Keturah
Albatross provides the Friday NAVIGATE strand within Keturah. This creates space for participants to connect personal discovery with life beyond the programme. The focus may be an experience from the week, a concern that has become relevant or a direction they wish to explore.
Each participant determines what the experience means to them. Friday is an opportunity for development, rather than a test of whether everyone has reached the same conclusion.
What we are working towards
Depending on your chosen focus, the aims may include:
-
Greater awareness of your circumstances and priorities.
-
Recognition of existing abilities and resources.
-
Clearer ownership of available choices.
-
More flexibility when conditions change.
-
Manageable habits and commitments.
-
Greater confidence in reviewing and adjusting your direction.
These are aims rather than guaranteed outcomes. Personal responsibility concerns the choices available to you; it does not imply that you caused every difficulty you face.
Programme scope
Albatross focuses on personal development and life coaching. It does not provide diagnosis, clinical treatment or specialist advice. Where another form of support is needed, the appropriate next step can be discussed.
Session arrangements
Albatross offers individual life-coaching sessions for adults, held in person. Each session lasts 60 minutes. Scheduling and follow-up arrangements are discussed during the initial enquiry.
