Cadence Bereavement Program

Cadence Bereavement Program

Finding your rhythm through grief

What is Cadence

Cadence refers to rhythm, movement and the rise and fall of sound. Within the Cadence Bereavement Program, it offers an image for finding your way through life following the death of someone significant.

Cadence makes room for your individual experience of bereavement, including moments when feelings change, familiar routines become difficult or the meaning of your loss comes into sharper focus.

Finding your rhythm through grief expresses the purpose of this service: compassionate support as you explore your loss and find ways to participate in life while honouring the person who has died and what they mean to you.

What this service offers

Cadence offers individual trauma bereavement counselling for adults. Each 90-minute session provides focused time to explore grief, express feelings and consider the changes that bereavement has brought into your life.

The work combines individual attention with structured facilitation where appropriate. It recognises that people bring different experiences, relationships, beliefs and ways of coping to counselling.

Your concerns help guide the work. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what to say or how you want to proceed.

Who it is for

Cadence is intended for adults seeking individual support following the death of someone significant. You may want space to:

  • Speak about the person who has died and what the relationship means to you.

  • Explore feelings that are difficult to express.

  • Consider changes in relationships, responsibilities or daily routines.

  • Approach distressing experiences connected with the death.

  • Identify practical needs and sources of support.

  • Find ways to remember and honour the person who has died.

An initial conversation provides an opportunity to discuss your circumstances and consider whether Cadence is an appropriate fit.

The foundation of Cadence

Cadence is grounded in compassion and respect for individual experience. The counselling process offers structure while allowing flexibility in what needs attention.

Your experience is approached without comparison to another person’s grief or pressure to reach a particular emotional milestone. Together, we make room for the significance of the death, the challenges of the present and the questions you may be carrying about the future.

How the approach works

Cadence draws on Applied Metapsychology and may incorporate Trauma Incident Reduction (TIR) and Life Stress Reduction (LSR), where appropriate to your needs and the agreed scope of the work.

These structured facilitation approaches are explained before use, giving you an opportunity to ask questions and understand the proposed process.

Where distressing incidents or current pressures need attention, the work provides focused space to explore them. The facilitator guides the agreed process without telling you what the death should mean to you or what you should feel.

The purpose is to support your own understanding and exploration. No particular pace of progress or outcome is promised.

What to expect from sessions

The starting point is a conversation about your bereavement, your present concerns and what you hope to gain from support. Together, we identify priorities and consider a suitable approach.

Sessions may involve talking about your experience, structured facilitation, reflection on daily challenges or exploring practical ways to support yourself between appointments.

You are encouraged to ask questions and communicate concerns throughout the work. There is room to review what is helpful and reconsider priorities as your needs become clearer.

What we are working towards

Depending on your needs, the aims may include:

  • Greater understanding of your own experience of bereavement.

  • More confidence in expressing feelings and asking for support.

  • Reduced distress connected with experiences being explored.

  • Practical ways to approach everyday pressures and changes.

  • Greater awareness of supportive relationships and personal resources.

  • Ways to carry remembrance and meaning into your ongoing life.

These are aims rather than guaranteed outcomes. The work respects the significance of the person who has died and your individual circumstances.
