Togetherness strengthens love
What is Allelon
Allelon takes its name from a Greek word used in the New Testament meaning “one another” or “each other”. This service emphasises the importance of being heard, supported, and encouraged through caring relationships.
Teenagers need room to develop their own voice while knowing they don't have to face difficult experiences alone. Allelon offers individual support that respects their growing independence and recognises the value of connection.
At its heart is a simple message: togetherness strengthens love.
What this service offers
Allelon offers personalised trauma counselling for teenagers aged 12–17 years, helping them explore difficult experiences and navigate their present lives. A parent or caregiver must arrange appointments.
Sessions provide a welcoming space to express feelings, explore concerns, and develop practical ways to approach everyday challenges. The work considers the teenager’s experiences alongside their strengths, relationships, priorities and hopes.
My role is to listen, facilitate understanding, and support the teenager in developing skills and choices that matter to them.
Who it is for
Allelon supports teenagers aged 12–17 years following distressing experiences, whether these occurred earlier in childhood or are more recent. These may include emotional, physical or sexual abuse, neglect, domestic violence or other adverse experiences.
A parent or caregiver may seek support around concerns such as:
-
Feeling overwhelmed or struggling to express emotions.
-
Anger, irritability or recurring conflict.
-
Low confidence, shame or a harsh view of themselves.
-
Difficulty trusting others or navigating relationships.
-
Challenges with boundaries and communicating needs.
-
Difficulties participating in school or everyday activities.
These concerns are starting points for a conversation. They do not, on their own, establish that trauma is the cause or determine which support is appropriate. An initial enquiry with a parent or caregiver helps clarify the teenager’s needs and whether Allelon is a suitable service.
The foundation of Allelon
Allelon’s name draws on the Christian invitation to love, serve, encourage and support one another. Within the service, this foundation is expressed through compassion, respect and a willingness to listen.
Togetherness means building supportive relationships while making room for the teenager’s perspective, boundaries, and growing independence. Their voice matters when identifying concerns, discussing goals and considering the support they need.
Understanding change through story.
One image used to introduce Allelon is a peaceful forest disrupted by a loud, threatening train. The animals respond differently to the disturbance, and some keep reacting after the train has passed.
This story offers a way to begin conversations about disruption, protection and change. It invites reflection on how an experience can feel different to each individual and what may help them feel supported afterwards.
The story invites exploration rather than an explanation imposed on the teenager. Their own account and understanding remain central.
How the approach works
Allelon provides trauma counselling guided by the teenager’s needs and the agreed scope of the work. Sessions may explore how the teenager understands past experiences, what feels difficult in the present, and how they would like to approach things differently.
Practical work within counselling may include:
-
Awareness of feelings and personal responses.
-
Strategies for managing overwhelming moments.
-
Communication and problem-solving skills.
-
Confidence in expressing needs and boundaries.
-
More supportive ways of relating to others.
-
Realistic steps towards personally meaningful goals.
The work builds on existing strengths and leaves room for questions, uncertainty, and the teenager’s own discoveries.
What to expect from sessions
The process begins with a parent or caregiver arranging an appointment and discussing the concerns that have brought the family to the service. The teenager’s perspective and hopes are explored as part of the counselling process.
An individual plan guides the work. Sessions provide focused time for exploration, reflection, and practising relevant skills, with opportunities to review what helps.
Before counselling begins, we explain arrangements for consent, confidentiality, its limits, and communication with caregivers. Caregiver involvement supports the teenager’s participation while respecting the agreed boundaries of the work.
What we are working towards
Depending on the teenager’s needs, the aims may include:
-
Greater understanding of their experiences and present concerns.
-
Increased confidence in expressing feelings and needs.
-
More options for responding to difficult situations.
-
Stronger boundaries and communication.
-
Greater awareness of personal strengths and sources of support.
-
Meaningful participation in relationships, learning and everyday life.
These are aims rather than guaranteed outcomes. Progress is individual, and we review the approach in light of the teenager’s experience.
Session arrangements
Allelon Teen Trauma Counselling Services supports teenagers aged 12–17 years. Each counselling session is 60 minutes.
A parent or caregiver must arrange the appointment. The initial conversation provides an opportunity to discuss concerns, the teenager’s needs, the delivery format, consent and arrangements for caregiver involvement.
The teenager’s voice and participation remain central to counselling. We explain confidentiality, its limits, and communication with the parent or caregiver before counselling begins.
