PaddaPoel Learning Studio

PaddaPoel Learning Studio

Love & Live — Read & Learn

A personalised learning-development journey for learners aged 6–18. Available in English and Afrikaans, through in-person sessions of 30–60 minutes. Applications are open.

Learning can feel difficult when a child is discouraged, struggles to focus, feels overwhelmed by schoolwork, or doesn't know where to begin. PaddaPoel offers a supportive space to explore these challenges, practise useful strategies and take manageable steps towards greater confidence in learning.

Through the story of Pete the Frog, a guided board game, conversation cards and practical activities, learners explore how they approach learning, what gets in their way and what may help them move forward.

The presentation, language, activities and pace are adapted to each learner’s age, readiness and learning needs. Younger children may engage through storytelling and play, while older learners can explore the same themes through more detailed reflection, practical study activities and meaningful goals.

Discovering possibilities with Pete

Pete’s story gives learners a gentle starting point for talking about experiences that can be difficult to explain directly. Exploring what Pete finds challenging can help learners begin to recognise their own strengths, frustrations, and possibilities.

The board game makes this journey visible. Each stopping point opens a conversation or an activity connected to learning. Learners can choose cards, try strategies, and notice what helps them.

The emphasis is on discovery, practice and progress. Badges recognise an insight, an effort, a demonstrated skill or a meaningful action.

Who may benefit

PaddaPoel may suit learners who:

  • Struggle to focus, begin tasks or maintain useful learning routines.

  • Feel discouraged by schoolwork or doubt their ability to learn.

  • Experience pressure around marks, mistakes or academic expectations.

  • Put tasks off or feel overwhelmed by larger assignments.

  • Need support with motivation, planning and manageable goals.

  • Would like to explore practical approaches to reading, studying and learning.

The starting point is the individual learner: their experience, what matters to them, and what they want to improve.

The PaddaPoel journey

The programme uses ten connected stopping points, explored at a pace suited to the learner:

  1. Pete — Me as a learner: Discovering strengths, challenges and how the learner sees themselves.

  1. The Onion — What lies underneath? Exploring thoughts, feelings and beliefs about learning.

  1. The Block — What is in my way? Identifying an obstacle and considering a possible response.

  1. The Tomato — One focus at a time: Practising short, manageable periods of focused activity.

  1. The Compass — What matters to me? Connecting learning with personal interests and meaningful direction.

  1. The Backpack — What am I carrying? Noticing pressure, comparison and expectations that make learning feel heavier.

  1. The Bridge — How can I get there? Trying practical learning strategies and reflecting on their usefulness.

  1. The Boots — Taking the next step: Choosing a realistic action to practise.

  1. The Mountain — Working towards a goal: Breaking a larger task or ambition into smaller steps.

  1. The Seed — Recognising potential: Reflecting on discoveries, effort and possibilities for continued growth.

These stopping points form a connected journey rather than a fixed number of sessions.

What happens in a session

We begin with how the learner is doing and what needs attention. A story, game activity or selected conversation card introduces the session’s focus.

The learner explores, tries something practical, and reflects on what they notice. This might include practising focused work, dividing a task into smaller parts, trying a learning strategy or choosing a more constructive response to difficulty.

Each session works towards a useful discovery or manageable next step that the learner can apply in everyday learning.

Learning with kindness and purpose

PaddaPoel draws on the Christian foundation of the Wardrobe of Love Model™ and its Wear Love™ principle, inspired by Colossians 3:14.

Within the learning journey, this means practising patience, courage, curiosity, responsibility, hope and kindness towards oneself and others. A mark, a mistake or a badge do not determine a learner’s worth.

A personalised educational focus

PaddaPoel focuses on learning development. Learners are not required to disclose traumatic experiences as part of the game or conversations. If a learner needs counselling, specialised assessment, or additional educational support, we can discuss this separately with their parent or caregiver.
